Until a few years ago it housed two or three nuns from the (protestant) Order of the Holy Paraclete
For many years they ran the village school until NYCC closed it; thereafter the nuns hosted people “in retreat”
The Order’s interest in Rievaulx stemmed from their founder who, during a visit to the abbey, had a vision whilst gazing at a carving of the holy dove above the door

At a guess, it's early 1900's, before the outbreak of war (which removed many of the males)
Might they be inhabitants of Rievaulx? (but would these be too many?....)
Could they be workers on the Duncombe Estate (at that time extending to Rievaulx? - but still too many?)
There doesn't appear to be anybody from the Duncombe family - unless you can spot some?
Possibly just a charabanc trip from goodness knows where?
